What is B. Pharma all about?

B. Pharma or Bachelor of Pharmacy is an undergraduate degree program in the field of pharmacy. This course basically focuses on understanding the properties and impact of medicines and developing the skills required to describe their use to patients. It is a four-year degree program. This is a career-oriented course and mandatory for the pharmacist aspirants

The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and AICTE are the 2 important agencies regulating pharmacy courses in India.

Admission Process:
Admission to B Pharmacy courses is often on the basis of entrance exams. There are different entrance exams for this course, some of them are at the state level and some of them are at the University level. Some state-level exams are TS EAMCET, AP EAMCET, BCECE, WBJEE. Some university-level exams are BVP CET, IPU CET, MHT CET.

Some private colleges can give admission directly based on the marks in 10+2.

Further study options:
Those students who want to study further can pursue courses like M Pharmacy and Ph.D. Pharmacy. They can even go for courses like LLB to get into drug and pharmacy law and ethics. Other courses are MBA in healthcare.

Career opportunities:
The pharmacy fields offered various employment opportunities in the pharmacy sector. They can open their own pharmacy by registering themselves under the State Pharmacy Council.

Students can find job opportunities in the public and private sectors. The graduates can find jobs in Pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, clinics, government drug research institutes, etc.

Note: For a student to be eligible for registration as a Pharmacist/ Clinical pharmacist in India, the college from which he or she graduated must be approved by the PCI.

Eligibility:

1. Must pass 10+2 with at least 50% marks with physics, chemistry, biology or biotechnology as one of the subjects.

2. Minimum age to get admission is 17 years.

The students who hold D. Pharma (Diploma of Pharmacy) from a PCI approved institute are eligible to get admission into 2nd year.
