One Interview Tip That Helps Me a Lot
If you google "Best Interview tips", you will find millions of records and most of them will have the same tips such as:
The one tip that helps me a lot is:
And you need to do this right after the interview because this is the moment when everything is fresh in your mind. If you wait to go home and write, chances are high that you forget a few things.
All the above tips are good and helpful for performing well in an interview.
- Prepare Well
- Be Confident
- Dress appropriately
- Reach on time
- Do research about the company
- Know the interviewer
- Ask Questions etc.
But today, I am going to share one tip with you that you won't find in most of these articles. This one tip helps me a lot in interview preparation during my jobless period.
About 5 years back, when my company suddenly stopped their business in India and the technology I was working with was obsolete. So I have to learn the skills in demand and find a job too. I was learning the latest skills at that time but had no hands-on experience in that.
So, getting a job in new a technology without experience is very hard. During that period, my everyday tasks were:
- Learning
- Search and apply for relative jobs
- Attend the Interview
- Repeat
The one tip that helps me a lot is:
Make Notes:
"Keep a notebook and pen with you always and make notes just after the interview".
Yes, you read it right, "Make Notes". As soon as you came out of the interview room, take some time and start making notes about the key points of the interview like:
- The new questions you faced
- The questions you couldn't answer
- Any new technology or topic the interviewer asked about
These notes will help you in preparation for your next interview. You can prepare for those questions that you couldn't answer or those that were new to you. You can learn the new skills that the interviewer asked about.
In this way, you become better after every interview and perform well in your next one.
One bonus tip
The one bonus tip that I am gonna talk about does not work always and is not recommended also but you can give it a try.
Ask for feedback:
If you think, the interviewer is a good person and in a good mood too then you can ask for feedback.
"Do you have any suggestions for me?"
Asking for interview feedback is always suggested after a few days of the interview via email if you didn't hear from the HR Manager. But that is to know if you got selected or not.
If you ask for feedback from the interviewer then he/she will provide you about your performance or skills or your weaknesses, etc. And believe me, most of the interviewers will provide you the honest feedback about you based on your conversation. And that feedback can also help you a lot in your next interview preparation.
If they don't give any feedback then there is no harm to you. But if they do, then it would be very helpful.
I did ask and many candidates asked me too when I took the interviews, I gave honest feedback to everyone.
Conclusion:
The first tip will always work and helps a lot. So, never forget to make notes. If you get selected then you can use these tips to enhance your knowledge which can help you in your work. Because, any questions asked or skills the interviewer talked about, chances are that these are used in their work and you will need those to perform better.
If you are rejected, then these tips will help you in preparation for your next interview.
Well, I grab a new job in just 3 months with a new skill and no experience. I hope it'll help you too.
